Words to live by.

Ever since I discovered the HOLSTEE Manifesto I fell in-love with its words. I first got a copy for my husband in 2012 when he was struggling deciding on a new job that required a big move for all of us. Short after that I got a small copy for my office (we ended up moving two hours away and I found a new job too, another two hours away). I've had it on my computer's desktop and I even made a series of photos inspired by these words. Last year, life hit me hard, so I had to have this reminder everyday, each morning, more than ever. So this is what I did...

Inspired by "A Room of Her Own" by Sandra Cisneros at the National Museum of Mexican Art 2016 Dia de los Muertos exhibition and a wall from one of my favorite coffee shops in town, Blackberry Market, I painted the HOLSTEE Manifesto words on my apartment entry wall. My awesome kid helped with the painting of the wall and some of the lettering (done with liquid chalk pens and using the Wildera font, compliments of Free Design Resources). It took roughly 12 hours over a period of two weeks and it made a great New Year's Eve photo opp! I added a vintage mirror surrounded by frames that will contain photos of my mother (who past away two years ago). Each morning, as I walk out of the door, I stop to look in the mirror, I say a mantra, and I remind myself that Life is Simple. Life is Short. If I don't like something, I must try to change it. All my emotions are beautiful, so I embrace them. And that life, ultimately, is about the people I meet and the things I create with them.
