COZINESS

We had pretty cold days last week, but I still managed to take brief afternoon walks to take some photos & video, so I could practice my editing (I am glad the new job has provided me with the opportunity and flexibility to do so).
During one of those walks, I thought of my early winters in the U.S. I thought about how grateful I am today for cozy sweaters, cozy gloves, cozy hats, a cozy couch. I grew up without these type of winters, so I hadn't realized what coziness really was until some years ago (already living in the US). One day I walked into work and started going about how cold and miserable I was with one of my coworkers. I probably said I hated winter, I don't quite remember, but how he responded would forever change my life. "You know what the problem is? Some people don't know how to dress for the cold weather." I heard him out and paid attention to his tips and advice, because after all, he had lived all his life in Russia. He explained the importance of layers, wool socks, and a nice fluffy winter coat.
Later when I moved to the Chicago area I learned that if you wanted to survive the harsh winters here, you needed a reliable coat and it was not gonna be "pretty", but heck it would keep you warm. Over the last few years I have come to appreciate and enjoy winters more and I think I have to thank this old co-worker's words. This is where my "willingness to listen no matter what" have come handy.
Today I am grateful for coziness and the joy it brings.
